About Beavercreek, Ohio
Although the City of Beavercreek was incorporated on January 11, 1980, its history stretches much further to the early 1800s. Beavercreek Twp. was founded in 1803. The “associate judges of Greene County” met in a log house on the banks of Beaver Creek on May 10, 1803 to set four townships, one of which became Beaver Creek.
David Shumway, a former Wright-Patterson Air Force employee who later wrote Beavercreek’s history in “Birth of a City,” said that becoming a city was like “founding a nation”. Shumway described the process, saying: “There were battles and infighting similar to those at the U.S. Constitutional Convention, and it took about the same amount of time.”
In 1980, Beavercreek City was born. As of 2017, the city has a population size of 46, 948. Current statistics say that 48.58 percent of the population is female while 51. 42 percent is male.
Beavercreek, Ohio is home to a number of famous people and rising stars such as former professional baseball starting pitcher Justin Daniel Masterson, and Janet Carol Wolfenbarger who is a retired United States Air Force four-star general who is known for being the first woman to achieve the rank of four-star general in the Air Force. Also from Beavercreek is Taylor Ewert, a high school track and field athlete who is considered a strong contender for a berth on the 2020 US Olympic 20k racewalking team.
Beavercreek also has some famous attractions, including The Philip Harshman House, believed to have been built between 1803 and 1807. It was discovered in 1985 when workers removed wood siding on a home slated for demolition and discovered the original log house, according to the Beavercreek Historical Society. The house stood just south of St. Luke Catholic Church on North Fairfield Road. It was later moved to Wartinger Park, 3080 Kemp Rd.
